ORIGIN: This pendant is made of shungite, a natural mineral made of up to 99% carbon. It is mostly found in Shunga, a village in Karelia, Russia. The origin of shungite is a mystery. Typically, materials made of carbon come from decayed organic substances like old forests. But the stone is thought to be at least 2 billion years old. This is before organic life existed on the planet.
COMPOSITION: The stone has a unique composition, containing fullerenes - spherical molecules made of 60 carbon atoms. These molecules are hollow and sometimes called buckyballs, referring to the famous inventor and visionary, Buckminster Fuller. Shungite also consists of nearly all the minerals on the periodic table.
REDUCES BACTERIA & VIRUSES: Studies show that the carbon nanostructures found in Shungite can destroy bacteria and viruses by damaging the cell walls of these harmful pathogens. Additionally when they interact with microbes, the microbes lose electrons and die. There is only a small amount of research available on the benefits of shungite, more studies are needed to fully understand its uses.
